Today's Plaque Me

Welcome. I'm Alan L Brown. I've lived for the last 39 years in Toronto. I'm a 62 year old retired school librarian who left the profession in June, 2002. What I am trying to do with this site is catalogue all the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada plaques, all the Ontario Provincial Plaques, all the City of Toronto plaques, all the plaques from the various Historical Societies and all other public plaques located in the city of Toronto. Each plaque is an interesting bit of Toronto's history which, together, begin to tell the story of our city.

There are four ways to see the plaque pages, all accessible from the menu at the top of the page. 'Index' gets you an alphabetical list of all the pages. 'Subjects' will show you a list of all the pages sorted by subject. 'Search' will allow you to find all the pages that match any word or words and finally, you can click the last link in the menu on each page.

Each plaque page presents a photo of the subject of the plaque or a photo of the plaque site, an opening commentary by me, the text of the plaque including links to more information, a map of the plaque's location including latitude and longitude co-ordinates, a photo of the plaque and then a section for comments.

Through email, I was able to obtain from the Federal government a list of all the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada plaques in Toronto along with their location and the plaque text. As well the Ontario government and the City of Toronto government supplied me with similar lists of their plaques.

Since 1997 I've also been running a website just for kids from 8 to 14 called Just For Kids Who Love Books and since the spring of 2004, a website called Ontario's Historical Plaques.
